Patients with questions about buprenorphine can ask their care team for more information. The team will tell you about the treatment process, potential drug interactions and precautions to follow. Communicating with your care team ensures that you get the most out of your MAT program. Over-the-counter medications, prescriptions, supplements and natural remedies can all cause adverse reactions. Talk to your program staff about every part of your medical care.
Surveys in the addiction field show buprenorphine’s usefulness in recovery. It has high rates of reducing illicit opioid use and increasing employment rates.
Due to its low potential for use, overdose on buprenorphine is unlikely if patients take it as prescribed. Please inform your physician of all the drugs you are taking to lower the risk of overdose.
Buprenorphine is long acting. After an initial period, a doctor may recommend taking the medication every other day rather than once a day.
Every patient who receives our care has an individualized treatment plan. Your care team of clinicians and physicians will tailor recovery to your personal needs.
